Auditions: Bodice Ripper
Sexy meets scary in this meta-comedy about writing, romance, and running for your life!

Riverbend Theatre is doing a World Premier production of Blaine Newton’s Bodice Ripper! This side-splitting comedy is set in the swingin’ 60’s as a couples "writing retreat” attempts to write a steamy romance novel for a quick buck … but an intriguing groundskeeper begins to unfold their own plot around them and turn it into a True Crime drama! Make your mark in history, as this World Premiere production hits the stage in April 2027.

Audition Details:
  • October 27th and 29th from 5:30pm - 8:30pm
  • 4730 50th Street, Red Deer, AB
  • Please prepare a one-minute comedic monologue.
  • Participants may be asked to cold read a scene from the play.

Please email [email protected] to book your audition slot and receive additional details. Detailed casting breakdown below.

Casting Breakdown

We welcome auditionees of any race, ability, or gender-presentation. Please reach out if you have questions or accessibility requirements.
  • Samantha (Sam): (20s) Intelligent. Practical. A lover of the written word whose fashion sense and world view have always chosen comfort over style.

  • Raoul/Walt: (30s or older) A handyman, or a mob enforcer, depending on his mood. Still, he has a soft spot and knows that the pen can be mightier than the sword (but not mightier than a semi-automatic Smith & Wesson Model 39, 9mm).

  • Clarissa: (30s) Smart, and the daughter of a woman with power. A housekeeper, for now. Until something better comes along. And something better always comes along. Because what comes along is always better.

  • Dave: (20-30’s) Handsome, athletic, and well-fed on privilege. What he lacks in sincerity he makes up for in single-minded opportunism.

  • Bob: (20s-30’s) A high school athlete now going to seed, but with a softness that extends to sincerity. He will be a child well into his late middle-age.

  • Cynthia: (20s-30’s) An artist. Stylish, decisive, observing, and smart enough to know that the subterfuge of beauty is a blinding advantage.
